Pershing D. "Pete" Murphy

Mr. Pershing D. “Pete” Murphy, age. 74, of Columbia, Kentucky, son of the late Henry and Pearlie Rowe Murphy was born on January 15, 1936 in Pulaski County, Kentucky and departed this life on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at his residence in the presence of his family. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by 9 brother, Boyd, Herbert, Elmer, William, Earnest, Wayman, Henry Jr., Kenneth, and Lawrence. Also preceding him in death is an infant son, Marvin Floyd, and his first wife, Billie Mae (Ramsey) Murphy who past away in December of 1982. Pete was once again united in marriage on September 19, 1983 to Sharen Murphy she survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Donald R. (and Charla) Murphy, James Michael (and Cindy) Murphy; 5 grandchildren; Allen Murphy, Billie (and Sharon) Murphy, Aaron (and Jackie) Murphy, Michael (and Cristin) Murphy, Marvin (and Kim) Murphy. Pete also leaves behind 7 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends who all mourn his passing. Pete was a former member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Somerset and a current member of Missionary Baptist Church in Russell Springs and a retired machinist from General Motors. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery. The family of Mr. Murphy will receive friends after 5 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2011 at Pulaski Funeral Home.
