Clell Dean (Prewitt) Godby, 73, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother traded her dying body for her heavenly body on January 20, 2006 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY. She was born October 12th, 1932 in Garrard County, KY to the late Clellan Prewitt and surviving mother, Leora Foley Prewitt of Somerset, KY. She was united in marriage in 1951 in Rossville, Ga. to the late Howard Leon Godby. From this union was born David Howard (and Melodie Prather) Godby, and Melvin McClellan "Mac" (and Jan Conley) Godby. Clell Dean was blessed with many special, loving; grandchildren, Melvin McClellan "Mackey" Godby, William David Godby, Christopher Lee (and Jamie Wesley) Godby, Joshua Howard Godby, and Andrew Clay Godby all of Somerset, KY Her other blessings from God include her Great - Grandchildren: Joshua Alec Godby, Chandler Wesley Godby and Benjamin Howard Godby. She loved her children so much and she will be greatly missed by all. She leaves behind; two special aunts, Jewell "Inis" (and Baker) Carter and Mary Ruth Broddus all of Bloomfield, KY ; and a very special sister-in-law, Nancy Godby Elliott of Science Hill, KY. In addition many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Clell Dean was preceded in death by; her father, Clellan Prewitt, founder of the Bank of Somerset (Cumberland Security Bank), Peoples Loan Company and Farmers Tobacco Warehouse. & a sister; Jean Prewitt. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Leon Godby of Science Hill, KY. Howard was a Livestock Dealer and owner of Monticello Stockyards. She also was preceded in death by; her father and mother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. M.A. "Melvin" and Kathryn Crawford Godby, both of Science Hill, KY Clell Dean was a 1950 Graduate of Somerset High School and Graduate of Crump Commerce Business College in Lexington, Kentucky. Clell Dean loved travel and her passion was antiques. Being an avid traveler, Clell Dean leaves behind an extended traveling family; Belinda & Tim Williams, Bob & Barbara Williams, Mike and Tammy Simpson, Kenny & Marie Smallwood all of Somerset, KY, Sir Walter Scott of Glasgow, Scotland and Theron and Marilyn Floyd of Murrell's Inlet, South Carolina. Clell Dean who had a strong work ethic, worked most of her life in the Livestock Market in Somerset, Monticello, and Russell Springs and in the Tobacco Markets in Somerset and Douglas, Georgia. She was also the Retired owner of the Curiosity Shoppe located on West Hwy 80 in Somerset, KY She leaves behind many dear co-workers and friends. Clell Dean was a philanthropist in her own quiet way, giving to mankind her love and resources. She was a caregiver to all around, loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. One of her most precious things was her church, the First Christian Church of Somerset, She loved her church and her church family and one of her proudest moments was to see the completion of the new First Christian Church. Clell Dean Godby always had a smile on her face and a kind word to say. Even in her long illness, she would want everyone to know that there is, VICTORY IN JESUS! Clell Dean will be deeply missed , but will be remembered for her strength and for the witness in the Lord that she has protrayed to everyone. "We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed and broken. We are perplexed, but we don't give up and quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going. Through suffering, these bodies of ours constantly share in the death of Jesus so that life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies." 2 Corinthians4: 8-10 All expressions of sympathy are to go to the First Christian Church Building Fund, Somerset, KY, The St. Jude Hospital or the Lake Cumberland Chapter of the American Red Cross. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2006 at the First Christian Church of Somerset. Burial will follow in the Science Hill Cemetery. The family of Mrs. Clell Dean Prewitt Godby will receive friends at Pulaski Funeral Home after 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2006 and she will lie in state at the church from 12:30 p.m. Sunday until after services.
