Norma Jean Vanhook

Mrs. Norma Jean Vanhook, age73, daughter of the late Gilbert and Ella Mae Meece was born on September 20, 1936 in Somerset, Kentucky and departed this life on Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Besides her parents Norma was preceded in death by four brothers, Orville Meece, Roy Meece, Dewell Meece, Curtis Meece and one sister, Doris Slavey. Norma is survived by her husband of 53 years; Onvie Vanhook, they were united in marriage on August 3, 1957 in Somerset, Kentucky. Norma is also survived by one son, Gary Lee Vanhook of Somerset, Kentucky; two daughters, Onvetta (and Dale) Herrin of Coatesville, Indiana; Barbara Lowery of Somerset, Kentucky; one honorary daughter and caregiver, Mary Sears of Somerset, Kentucky; three brothers, Lesley Meece of California, Kentucky; James Meece of Mooresville, Indiana; Billy Wayne Meece of Kansas; and one sister Oreta Bowman of Hamilton, Ohio. Norma also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Jamie Hall, John Phelps, Autumn Vanhook, Kelsey Lowery, Brian Lowery, Lisa Ping, Tracy Bradley, Kristie Roberts; thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends who all mourn her passing. Norma was member of the Cumberland Baptist Church and worked as a nurse over the years. Norma loved to Sew and Cook and was a very devoted Wife and Mother who will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Sutton and Bro. Claude Meece officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery in Somerset. The family of Mrs. Norma Jean Vanhook will receive friends on Monday, February 22, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at the Pulaski Funeral Home. Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all arrangements.
