Amelia Neely

Amelia Marie (Allen) Neely passed away peacefully at her home in Somerset, KY on Saturday, February 18th, 2023 after a brief illness. Born September 15th,1937 to James Burdette and Lenora Marie Allen in Ferguson, Amelia attended Somerset High School, graduating in 1955. Amelia worked her entire life, often wearing many different hats to help support her family. She began her long journey of work at Citizens National Bank soon after high school, working there until the mid-1970’s. Amelia married Earl Neely from the Frazier community in Wayne County, on February 22, 1959. They began farming in Wayne County, and after their first son, David, was born September 9 th , 1961, purchased the farm in the Pisgah community in Pulaski County where they would raise their family. They continued to work several farms they owned or leased from others in Pulaski and Wayne counties for many years, giving birth to their second son, Bruce, on July 20, 1968. Amelia began to work full time for Warner Fertilizer in the mid 1970’s for several years, and Burley Belt Fertilizer Co. for a short time before Earl’s passing on March 9, 1985. After that, she worked various jobs such as selling real estate for Samuel Ray Godby, the Burnside Library, and finally as an Aide at Southern Elementary School. At the end of her involvement in farming around 1990, she actively managed some rental properties up until her passing. She continued to do a lot of work herself, such as cleaning, painting, lawn care, for the last 30 years. Amelia never really retired. Amelia was of strong Christian faith, and was a charter member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church. She cherished all her family and all the friends she made during her many walks of life. She enjoyed traveling and boating on Lake Cumberland during her years with Earl and their sons. Later in life, she enjoyed spending winter months in Ft. Myers, FL. She has enjoyed the company of many lifelong friends and with special friends, Charles Owens, Mary Merrick, Shirley Ramsey, and Tom Morgan, whom she
celebrated life with over the last several years . She loved her siblings, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren deeply. Amelia is survived by her two Sons, David (Susan) Neely of Bradenton Florida, and Bruce (Shannon) Neely of Somerset. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Brian (Danielle) Neely of Lehigh Acres,
Florida, and Devan and Brad Neely of Somerset. She also has two great grandchildren, Riley and Holden Neely of Lehigh Acres, Florida. She is also survived by one of her five siblings, Dr. Richard (Elizabeth) Allen of Louisville, KY and many nieces and nephews. Amelia is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Neely, her parents, two brothers; James “Buddy” (Charlene) Allen and Edwin “Stretch” (Myrtle) Allen, two sisters; Christine (Earl) Denham and Margaret (Roy) Humble. 

A funeral service will be held Friday, February 24, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Sam Crawford officiating. The family will receive friends From 10:30 AM till time for services. Burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
