Barbara Sue Prather Moyer

September 9, 1941 — March 29, 2023

Spartanburg

Barbara Sue Prather Moyer (82), born March 9, 1941 passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 29, 2023 in the early morning (her favorite time of day) at her home in Spartanburg, SC, surrounded by her son, daughter and son-in-law, grandson and other grandchildren.

Barbara Sue grew up in Somerset, KY in a large family.  She was born to the late Winfred and Clara Phillips Prather.  She attended school in Somerset and graduated from Somerset High School.  She attended Business School. At 13, she was first employed at her brother Boyd’s restaurant, The Sonny Boy.  At 15 she went to work at the Rose’s Department Store in downtown Somerset.  She was also employed at General Electric.  Her two brothers, Dean Prather & (Charlotte) and David Prather & (Jewell), survive her.  She was predeceased by her sister, Georgia Keeney & (Huelon), and her brothers Marion Prather & (Janie), Boyd Prather & (Betty), and Earl Prather & (Elvie).

Barbara Sue married her husband, Roy Moyer of Germantown, OH on January 8, 1971.  They began their family with daughters Cynthia Lynn Mounce and Tamara Jean Klemple and in the years to come, celebrated the birth of Rebecca Renee Moyer Smith and Jason Roy Moyer.  The family made several moves throughout the years – from Somerset, KY to Maysville, KY and then on to Garden City, KS.  They headed back east to be closer to family and landed in Owensboro, KY.  Next they moved to Spring Hill, FL and then Charleston, SC.  While Barbara and Roy continued to work for several years in upstate NY, Chicago, IN, Salt Lake City, UT and Las Vegas, NV, the home base for everyone was Charleston, SC.  Their home in Charleston was a place for family and friends (new and old) to gather and reunite.  It was a place of fun & laughter, games, neighbors, and family dinners.

Wherever Barbara Sue went, she gathered good friends, attended church, found treasures at yard sales, raised her children well, loved other people’s babies and children, and found bookkeeping work to keep her sharp.  She never met a child she couldn’t win over with a trick, treat, or tickle.  She was creative and pursued many hobbies like crochet, quilting, sewing, painting, and decorating her house.  She always had a project ready and waiting for her husband, Roy.

She had a deep love and connection to her Somerset family.  She made sure to be in contact with her brothers and sisters and worked to make sure her children had relationships with those family members.  She welcomed grandchildren and looked forward to giving them meaningful experiences. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She is survived by daughters Tamara Jean Klemple, Rebecca Renee Moyer Smith & (Taylor), and son Jason Roy Moyer & (Daniela).  Her grandchildren David Duncan & (Jessica), Amber Powell, McCord Dudding, Charles Smith, Owen Smith, Gabe Smith, Macie Smith and Miller Smith, Abram Moyer and Gia Moyer and her great-grandchildren Braden and Paisley Duncan.  Her daughter Cynthia Lynn Mounce predeceased her in 2018.

The life of Barbara Sue will be celebrated at a graveside service in Nancy, KY at the Prather Family Cemetery on July 8, 2023 at 2pm in the afternoon.  All are invited and welcome.

Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
