Billy H. Howell, 85, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, in Plano, Texas. He was born on June 6, 1940, in McDowell, Kentucky, to his parents, Reed and Josie Howell.
Bill was raised in Ohio and Michigan within a large extended family, but he always held his grandparents, Hobert and Tildy Howell, closest to his heart as the family who raised him.
He had a passion for cars, fishing, and tinkering in his garage. True to his love of machinery and skill with mechanics, Bill worked as a printing press operator for Dayton Press, EDS, and Antioch Printing. After retirement, he moved to Somerset, Kentucky, where he enjoyed his favorite outdoor hobbies and spent time with friends at local auto and coffee shops. He loved sharing stories, fishing on the Cumberland River, driving through the Daniel Boone National Forest, attending car shows, and rebuilding his cherished 1947 Chevy truck.
As life slowed down, Bill moved to Dallas, Texas, to be near his children and grandchildren. We were fortunate to have "Grandpa Bill" attend countless games, school events, birthday parties, and holidays over the past 13 years.
Bill was a man of deep faith and was forever grateful for the support and fellowship of his church families at Ferguson Baptist Church (Ferguson, KY) and CrossRidge Church (Little Elm, TX).
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Monica (Howell) Whaley, earlier this year.
Bill is survived by his son, Michael Howell, and his wife, Stacie; his grandchildren, Colton Whaley and his wife Courtney, Madison (Whaley) Wachepa and her husband Dennis, Jacob Berg, Ian Howell, and Peyton Howell; his son-in-law, Greg Whaley; and his great-grandson, Ekari Wachepa.
He will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to send a special Thank You to the caregivers at Prestonwood assisted living facility. We can't thank you enough for the compassion, kindness, humor, and patience you showed Billy.
A celebration of life service will be held for family and friends on August 10th at 2:00 p.m. at Stonebriar Funeral Home in Frisco, Texas. He will be laid to rest at Sloans Valley Cemetery, nestled in the beautiful hills of Kentucky. The family of Billy H. Howell will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, KY from 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 18th, 2025 until 1:00 p.m. then the family will travel to Sloans Valley Cemetery in Burnside, KY for a brief graveside service.
The entire family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of support and sympathy during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, we would ask you to consider donating to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) in honor of his daughter, Monica Howell Whaley.
