David Allen Barrett, age 62, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away on May 27, 2025. Born on August 4, 1962, in Jacksonville, Florida, David spent most of his childhood and life in the close-knit hills of Harlan County, Kentucky-a place that shaped the heart and soul of the man he became.
David was preceded in death by his loving parents, William and Arwana Barrett; and his sisters, Debra Metcalf and Sandra Barrett Guffey. He is survived by his four children: Aaron Barrett, Jonathon Adam Barrett, Ambriana D. Barrett, and Faith Barrett, who were the pride and joy of his life. He is survived by his ex-wives, Tabatha Hatfield Barrett and Penny Livengood. He is also survived by his sister Cathy Wilder; brothers Bill Barrett, Mark Barrett, and Richard Metcalf; and many nieces and nephews who will remember his humor, guidance, and love.
A true jack of all trades, David lived a full life before being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which left him disabled in his later years. Still, his spirit remained strong. He never let his circumstances define him. Whether in the woods hunting, fishing, or ginseng hunting-his favorite pastime-David found joy and peace in nature.
His greatest calling, however, was his faith. David served as pastor at several churches, with some of his most cherished memories being the time he spent leading the Cedar Grove Church of God of Prophecy in Cedar Grove, KY. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he shared it with conviction and love.
David wore many titles in his life: son, brother, cousin, uncle, and preacher. But the one he cherished most was father. He deeply loved his children and grandchildren, always doing his best to provide guidance, strength, and unwavering love.
