Dock S. McCartt, 89, born to Dock and Estelle McCartt September 19, 1927, Somerset Kentucky, departed this life on May 18, 2017 at home with friends. Dock was married to his best friend and lovely wife, Ernestine Jones McCartt for over 60 years and she proceeded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his parents, an older brother Harry, who died overseas while serving in WWII, a sister Mary Nell Ross, who was 18 months older and died just 18 months before, and nephew Taskel Ross. Dock attended Somerset High School where he was captain of the Briar Jumper football team. After graduation, Dock served in WWII where he served with distinction and became manager of the PX. Dock was a hard worker and sharp dresser who was previously employed by Kroger, ML Gover's , McAlpin's Mens store, Clydes Clothing Store and served many years as assistant and greeter at Pulaski funeral home. Dock served many years as a voluntary groundskeeper for First Baptist Church Somerset, under the pastorate of Dr. Taylor, where he was a long time member and continued to watch the television ministry until his passing. He was a Bible reader, UK wildcat fan, Fox News viewer, avid walker,Lions Club member, and at one time, a horse enthusiast and member of AA. Dock leaves behind friends, who had grown to be his family, including his long time buddy Win Dodson and Shirley, his caregiver David Cowen, Joy Wheeldon (Ron, Kaley, Brannen, Isaiah), special friends and neighbors Suzanne Barnett, Lucy B Meece, Joanne Waddle, and others who will greatly miss him. He is also survived by nephews Samuel Ross and Joe D. Ross, Louisville KY. Dock received special care from Dr. Harry Kennedy, VA home care, Jill, Elizabeth, Bethany, and all the wonderful staff of Hospice of Lake Cumberland. He appreciated visits from Chaplain Joe White VA, Greg Ryan, Hospice and French Harmon. Visitation will be Monday May 22, 2017 at the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home from 11am- 1pm with a funeral service beginning at 1pm with Dr. French Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38In Lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, First Baptist Church of Somerset or Gideons Bible fund. Yet the greatest way to honor Dock is to believe in Jesus and ask Him to be your Savior and Lord. ...All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is as the flower of the field: The grass withers, the flower fades: because the breath of the LORD blows upon it: surely the people are grass.
