Gene Renner

July 29, 1946 — July 18, 2025

Gene Logan Renner passed from this earthly life on July 18, 2025, eleven days before his seventy-ninth birthday, at his home in Montgomery, Alabama. He was born in Pine Hill, Kentucky on July 29, 1946, the youngest child of Osker Sidney Renner and Ina Kirby Renner. On July 29, 1966, Gene married Ginny, his high school sweetheart and they moved to Somerset, Kentucky where they made their home for the next fifty-one years. Gene served in the Kentucky Army National Guard's 201st Engineer Battalion from 1965 to 1971. During this time he also began his lifelong career in the construction industry and became especially skilled in the use and detonation of explosives. He drilled and blasted for highway projects, surface mining, utilities, rock quarries, and commercial building projects all across Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee. Gene worked for various companies, including Renner Drilling and Blasting, which he co-owned with his son Jeff.

Gene was a loving husband, an incredible father, and a fun Grandpop. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and tinkering in his workshop where there was almost nothing he couldn't fix. But most important, Gene was a faithful follower of Jesus and was a current member of First Baptist Montgomery.

Gene is survived by Ginny, his wife of nearly 59 years, and their three children: Jeffrey Renner (Lana) of Ferguson, Kentucky; Stephen Renner (Jenny) of Montgomery, and Jennifer Renner (Mark Kelly) of Houston, Texas. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Mary Grace (Michael) Loutzenheiser, of Huntsville; Anna (Nathaniel) Loper of Pensacola, Florida; Andrew Renner of Ferguson; Paul Renner of Montgomery; Luke Kelly and Jack Kelly of Houston, and his brother, Mack (Jimmie Lou) Renner, of Mount Vernon, Kentucky, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Falin, and a precious grandson, Logan Renner.

The family of Gene Renner will receive friends on Tuesday, July 22 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. James Floyd officiating. He will be laid to rest in Bobbitt Cemetery.
