George Cowan Thurman

February 19, 1939 — May 1, 2022

George Cowan Thurman, son of the late William and Christine York Thurman, was born in the Oakhill Community on Sunday, February 19, 1939 and he departed this life on Sunday, May 1, 2022 having attained the age of 83 years.

He was united in marriage to Betty Jean Tarter Thurman, she survives. Other;  survivors include two children, Jeff (and BJ) Thurman and JoEllen (and Scott) Whitaker; two grandchildren, Tyler (and Megan) Whitaker and Lindsey (and Colby) Westerfield; and one great grandchild, Medli Whitaker.

George was a member of the First Baptist Church of Somerset. He was driven and guided by his strong faith  in  Christ. He led his family into a deep abiding trust in the Lord.

George was a lifelong farmer, first with Dairy then with Cattle and Grain. You could always find him on a tractor or at Jerry's drinking coffee. He felt a farm was more than working land, it was a legacy and a rich heritage to pass on to future generations. He worked every day as a part of that dream.

The family will host a memorial service at (Cowboy Church} on Suits Us Farm at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Bro. Braxton King will officiate the service. The family of George Thurman will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the farm until time for services, everyone is invited.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to 58:10 in care of the Somerset First Baptist Church.
