James (Jim) William Johnson, 60, of Somerset, passed away unexpectedly on September 10, 2025. He was born on August 24, 1965 to the late Sarah Jane Prather (Posey) and Gary Dewayne Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Arthur and Esma Prather.
He is survived by his loving wife, Robin Johnson, stepchildren Nicole Cook (Ross) Holly Rock (Peter), Vincent Parsley (Alea) Mother-in-law Nawatha Garrison and Father-in-law Al Garrison, brother Carl Posey, sister Kim Weddle, and a special aunt and uncle, John Robert and Margaret Silvers. He leaves a host of cousins who were more like siblings to him.
Jim was retired from the Kentucky National Guard. He proudly served his country in the United States military and was deployed to Iraq from 2006 to 2007 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7) after a distinguished career with the Kentucky National Guard. His decorated military career included receiving the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism medals, and numerous other commendations for his service and leadership.
Jim was known as a leader and mentor, especially to the many young soldiers he recruited and guided throughout his career. He had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, hunting and fishing, cooking, and spending time with his grandchildren, Oliver and Parker, Rock, Quinton and Chloe Cook, and Percy Parsley.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Pulaski Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 16th at 1:30PM at Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky. Military Honors will be performed by American Legion Post 38.
