James (Lehman) Burdine, son of the late James Ed and Essie Burdine of Line Creek, Kentucky, was born on April 28, 1940, and departed this life on September 17, 2025, after a long battle with cancer and other illnesses.
Lehman worked at Ikerd & Bandy Coal Company for twenty-seven years, serving as a foreman for many of those years. He later retired from Hanson, formally known as Kentucky Stone. Lehman, also known as the Van Man on the CB radio, owned his own gravel truck and hauled many loads of rock throughout the community. Lehman was a longtime member of Providence Baptist Church, where he played the guitar and led music until his recent health decline. Over the years, Lehman has enjoyed gospel/bluegrass music, horseback riding, boating, camping, gardening, and tinkering in the garage. He was known by his community of Goodwater as someone folks could count on to help fix their vehicles or farm equipment, do some welding for them, shoe their horses, or just lend a hand when someone was in need. Lehman was a father figure and amazing role model to many. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Lehman was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Jean Mounce-Burdine; two children - Tim and Kimberly Burdine; four sisters - Juanita Decker, Louise Decker, Jean Adams, and Lorene Swafford; and four brothers - Buke Whitaker, Chuck Whitaker, Marvin Whitaker, and Otheneal Whitaker.
He leaves behind, to cherish his memory, three children - Tommy (Donna) Burdine, Tonya (Troy) Davidson, and Joel (Tiffany) Burdine; two brothers - Denton Burdine and Billy Ray Burdine; three sisters-in-law - Betty Smith, Regina Chaney, and Elaine Baker; ten grandchildren - Brent Burdine, Travis Burdine, Kyle Burdine, Josh Burdine, Samantha Burdine-Hensley, Sarah Burdine-Mounce, Elisabeth Barnett-Cox, Lainey Barnett, Kylie Taylor, and Christian Burdine; and fourteen great-grandchildren - Lauryn Burdine, Cross Burdine, Cohen Burdine, Tristan Burdine, Weston Burdine, Dominic Spradlin, Shyanne Burdine, Saydee Burdine, Thomas Burdine, Alex Cook, Avery Cook, Fisher Hensley, Jase Mounce and Cali Sue Mounce.
A funeral service for Lehman Burdine will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 22nd, at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Brother Ron Meece and Brother Dallous Sears officiating.
The grandsons, along with the grandsons-in-law (Zack Hensley, Shane Mounce, and Jacob Cox), will be pallbearers.
Burial will be in the Providence Cemetery, with a meal following at the Mt. Victory Fire Department Community Room.
