James Loyd Jim Mercer

November 4, 1967 — February 28, 2022

James Loyd "Jim" Mercer passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022 at his home in Science Hill, Kentucky. He was 54 years old. Jim was the son of Jewell Bea Harper Mercer, and the late James Estill Mercer.
Survivors include his mother, Jewell Bea Harper Mercer, his sister, Deborah Mercer Eads (and her husband Douglas); a niece, Abigail Brianna Eads; a nephew, Adam Douglas Eads (Beverly); a great niece, Luna Abigail Eads and a vast host of family, friends and coworkers who mourn his passing. Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Estill Mercer.
Jim was an avid musician and an accomplished Trumpeter. He graduated from Pulaski County High School in 1985. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from the University of Kentucky. He also earned Bachelor Degrees in Music and Radio and TV Broadcasting from Eastern Kentucky University. Jim was also a faithful employee of IHeartMedia, Inc. as their Director of Engineering from 2008 to the present. Prior to IHeartMedia, Jim was the Chief Engineer for First Radio / Clear Channel in Somerset for many years.
Jim was very involved with music in the Somerset Area. He was a member of Somerset Big Band plus many other musical organizations. He was also a member of the orchestra at Science Hill Church of the Nazarene. He was an avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats and NASCAR. He was a member of the Nelson Valley Baptist Church.
Visitation for James Loyd "Jim" Mercer will be held at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home on Monday, March 7, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until time for services.
A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Monday March 7th at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Meece and Bro. Stanley Childers officiating. Burial will follow in the Sweeney's Chapel Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to The Nelson Valley Baptist Church or the Sweeney's Chapel Cemetery Fund.
