Jo Ann Bruin

Jo Ann Bruin, age 82, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Somerset Nursing & Rehabilitation in Somerset, KY. She was born December 3, 1942 to the late Noel & Daisy (Prows) Hargis in Somerset, KY.

Jo Ann loved to cook for her family. Her life revolved around her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and she was passionate about volunteering with her church, spreading her love for the gospel to everyone. She traveled for many years singing with The Heavenly Echoes. She loved UK basketball and enjoyed spending her free time with her family and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen Bruin; her siblings, Clinton Hargis, Denton Hargis, and Fayrene Price.

She is survived by her three children, Mark & (Jennifer) Bruin, Jimmy Bruin & (Melissa Ping), and Susan & (Paul) Calfee; five grandchildren, Mackenzie Bruin, Kelsie Frye, Emma Calfee, Morgan Bruin, and Ashtyn Bruin; three siblings, Eddie Hargis, Brenda Peel, and Linda Turner; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She is also survived by a special friend, Gwen Marcum.

A funeral service will be held Friday, October 17, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Denham Street Baptist Church, 400 Denham St, Somerset, KY 42501, with Bro. Jeff Griffith officiating.

Burial will follow at Woodstock Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 AM until time for services at Denham Street Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or The Alzheimer's Association.
