John C. Wilson, 93, of Somerset, Kentucky passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the Jean Waddle Care Center.
He was born in August 31, 1932 in Somerset, Kentucky to William P. Wilson and Mary Louisa (Godbey) Wilson. John devoted his life to ministry, serving churches throughout Pulaski and Russell Counties, as well as in Ohio and abroad in Africa. He spent more than seven years as a missionary in Africa, faithfully sharing the Gospel and uplifting the communities he served. Even after retiring, his dedication never wavered-he continued teaching Sunday School for many years at First Baptist Church in Somerset.
A true fisher of men, John served the Lord with a deep love for God and genuine compassion for others. Known for his quick wit and warm sense of humor, he loved recounting the many stories gathered from a lifetime of service and adventure. He approached each day with honesty, positivity, and a joyful spirit, always striving to make the most of the time he was given.
John's devotion to his faith, his family, and the countless friends he made along the way leaves a legacy that will be long remembered. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Ada (Noe) Wilson; his children, Richard Wilson and Janet Rutherford of Somerset; two step-daughters, Phyllis Coffey and Debbie Mobley; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Raymond Wilson, Helen Hancock, and Coy Wilson; his parents; and his first wife, Margaret "Marge" Wilson; and two siblings who died in infancy.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, November 20, 2025 at First Baptist Church Somerset with Bro. Ryan Coffey, Bro Bill Fort, and David Pendley officiating.
Burial will be in Tanner Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after 11:00 AM Thursday, November 20, 2025 at First Baptist Church Somerset until time for services.
