Joyce Ann Keeney Flynn, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, under the compassionate care of the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Unit at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.
Born on May 20, 1942, in Pulaski County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Zula Vaughn Keeney. Joyce graduated from Somerset High School in 1960 and attended Eastern Kentucky University. Later in life, her love of learning led her back to college, where she earned a Bachelor's degree from Western Kentucky University and a Master's degree from the University of Kentucky.
Joyce was a faithful, long-time member of First Baptist Church and was known for her gracious spirit, gentle wisdom, and classic sense of style. She had a kind word for everyone she met and found joy in simple pleasures-walking in her neighborhood, reading a good Southern novel, volunteering, and especially reading to her grandsons.
On November 6, 1968, she married William Max Flynn. Together, they were involved in several business ventures, including the development of Eagle's Nest Golf Course and Country Club. In 2005, Joyce retired from the University of Kentucky Somerset Community College System, and she and Max enjoyed spending winters in Florida.
She was the devoted mother of two children whom she adored: Charles Kevin Warner and Kim (Barry) Garner. She was a proud grandmother to Callie Anne (William) Thompson of Somerset, KY; Catie (Andreas) Bilz of Villa Hills, KY; and Gordon (Allie) Farley of Charlotte, NC; and a cherished great-grandmother to Blake Garner Thompson (3), Lucas Oliver Bilz (3), Liam Mathew Thompson IV (5), and Alexander Bilz (6). She is also survived by her loving sisters, Judy (David) Aker and Doris Loeser, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max; her parents, Earl and Zula Keeney; two stepdaughters, Jan and Mary Ann Flynn; and sisters Olive Laugherty, Marie Hart, Randa Gover, Hazel Flynn, Lavonne Sexton, and Cella Flynn.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to First Baptist Church Project 58:10 or Hospice of Lake Cumberland in honor of Joyce Flynn.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 12, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Sanctuary, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Ryan Coffey and Brother David Pendley. Burial will follow at Somerset Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Craig Allen, Chris Allen, Andreas Bilz, William Thompson, David Aker, and Gordon Farley.Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
