Mrs. Lucille Phelps, 93, of Somerset, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 17, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was a stalwart homemaker, always available to tend to the needs of her family. She was saved at the age of 11 at the Bethelridge Methodist Church and was a faithful member of the Somerset First United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. In later years this relationship with her savior Jesus Christ evolved into a ministry of sending cards to people for whom she wanted to convey a caring message. These cards were carefully and lovingly crafted to apply just the right words to the situation that was addressed. These cards became a source of consolation and solace for many people.Emma Lucille Sweet was born September 30, 1923 in Bethelridge, KY, the daughter of the late Dennie and Sadie Godbey Sweet. She was united in marriage to Mr. Ralph Phelps on August 9, 1943, a union that lasted for 72 years until his death on May 22, 2016. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by an infant son, Jackie Dennis and brothers, Clarence, Glenn and Carroll Gene Sweet.She is survived by her children; Terry (and Lucy) and Ron (and Linda) Phelps both of Dalton, GA; a daughter, Linda (and Jim) Rutherford of Ferguson, KY and Philip (and Marcia) Phelps of Science Hill, KY; one sister, Louise (and Ron) Haste of Bethelridge, KY; nine grandchildren, Sharon, Tara, Heidi, Michael, Todd, Jennifer, Paige, Mark, and Ashley; and 12 great grandchildren.The family will receive friends at the Somerset First United Methodist Church from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017.A funeral service will be held at the Somerset First United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 with Rev. Steve Spitzer officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethelridge Cemetery following the services.In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, The Somerset First United Methodist Church, or the Alzhiemers Respite Center.The Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family of Mrs. Lucille Phelps with all arrangements.
