Listen to Obituary

Mary Louise "Weezie" Roberts Bales, age 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22nd, 2026 in her Valley Oak, Kentucky home. She was born March 10th, 1946 in Cynthiana, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Earl C. and Hattie Six Roberts. Louise was the daughter of a devout Methodist minister, and later became a member of Flat Lick Baptist Church after returning to the Valley Oak area.

When Louise relocated back to the Somerset area in 1983, she accepted a secretary position at Somerset Community College where she spent a year. Louise then dedicated 25 years to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, where she started in the administration department, re- relocated to corporate headquarters in Nashville, TN for 3 years to recruit physicians, and finally landed in the maintenance department as the administrative assistant where she took pride in holding her coworkers accountable for cleaning up after themselves.

"Weezie" was a woman who was full of life, personality, and grit. She took on every obstacle that was thrown her way, with ease, including being married to a Captain in the U.S. Air Force while juggling two kids. She loved her family deeply and with pride. She always made sure the ones she loved most were taken care of. She taught her grandchildren to always stand up for themselves and to never back down from a challenge. "Weezie's" grandchildren want to truly thank her for the years she dedicated to them, including all the hair she brushed, the baths she gave, the hours she drove to rush us "here and there". Louise deserved more praise than she ever received in her lifetime.

In addition to her parents, Louise is preceded in death by her brother, Roy Roberts. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Gary Wayne Bales, who poured his heart and strength into ensuring her final years were filled with comfort, dignity, and unwavering love.

Furthermore, she is survived by her sister, Janet Roberts Snell; two children, Michael Wayne Bales, Amie Jo (Shaun) Campbell; grandchildren, Codie Wilson, Alexus Wilson, Somerlin Cheek (Logan), and Kathryn (Lucas) Abrell; and great-grandchildren, Jaylex, Allie, and Zavier Wadsworth, Blakely, Jamison Stigall; and many nieces and nephews.
