Mary Ann Nutgrass Gover, age 96, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, in Somerset, Kentucky, just three days shy of her 97th birthday. Born in Hustonville, Kentucky, on August 20, 1928, she was the cherished daughter of Grover Cleveland Dunn and Grace Donaldson Dunn.
Mary Ann grew up in Hustonville alongside her beloved older brother, Cleve Dunn, twelve years her senior, whom she proudly saw off to serve in World War II. A spirited cheerleader at Hustonville High School from 1944 to 1946, she carried that same energy and devotion into every chapter of her life.
She was a lifelong woman of faith, first attending Hustonville Christian Church and later becoming a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Somerset. While there, she served on the Women's Guild and contributed countless hours to community service, embodying grace and generosity.
Following the passing of her first husband, Albert Harold Nutgrass, Mary Ann returned to school to earn her Licensed Practicing Nurse certification. She went on to serve children and families with compassion at Somerset Children's Clinic until her retirement.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Harold Nutgrass; her daughter, Wanda Nutgrass Whitaker; grandson-in-law, Kerry Vaughn Metts; great-grandson, Waylon James Metts; her parents, Grover and Grace Dunn; and her brother, Cleve Dunn.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ann Chaney (Reginald); son-in-law, Greg Whitaker; granddaughter, Heather Whitaker Metts and her children: Grace Metts Kirk (Blake), Marshall Metts, and Weston Metts; great-great-granddaughter, Scotti June Kirk; grandson, Bradley Hartford Chaney (Andrea) and his children: Sophia and Hamilton Chaney; granddaughter, Brandi Whitaker Sanders (John) and her children: William and Hilari Sanders; granddaughter, Christina Marie Chaney Ross (Chad) and her children: Carter and Chaney Ross.
