Mary Joe Hinson

September 14, 1928 — August 26, 2022

Mary Hinson went to be with her Lord on Friday, August 26, 2022, just short of her 94th birthday, September 14th.

From her 20s until her passing, Mary was a servant of her Lord Jesus Christ. It was her influence that led her husband, Richard Hinson, to also accept God into his life and become a Baptist minister.

Richard and Mary spent many years serving at Berean Baptist Church in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, Monterey Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida, and West Somerset Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky, the church they called home.

Miss Mary shared her faith by teaching children's Sunday School and VBS, singing in church services, and witnessing to others in both words and actions. At the age of 55, she returned to school and became an LPN, working at nursing homes in the Orlando area, and eventually focusing on assisting Alzheimer's patients. In retirement, Mary volunteered at the Pulaski County Alzheimer's Center for years before becoming a client. She loved her “daycare”.

Alzheimer's affected Marys' short-term memory, but not her love and dedication to God. She would often quote the Gospel song, "Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul; Thank you, Lord, for making me whole". She thanked God constantly for His many blessings in her life, and the lives of her family and friends. Mary loved singing, walking, working out at the YMCA, driving across the nation to visit friends and family, reading her Bible, and serving the Lord. Her only vices were chocolate and doing laundry.

Mary leaves a legacy of love through her family - sister Barbara Sartain, sister in law Lois Davenport, cousin Teri Friedman, daughters Donna (and David) Tanner, Debbie Foster, and Denise Barnard (James Avgeris); her grandchildren, Shane and Sarah Weddle, Brandi and Carl Mooney, Eric and Andrea Weddle, Summer and Lynn Lowery, Kelly Foster Yocum, Timothy and Brooke Barnard, Cassandra and Justin Jones, and Kaylen Tanner Brown; her great grandchildren, Josh Cornelius, BreAnna Mooney, Braden Weddle, Bailey Caudill, Thomas Kennett, Blake Caudill, Aubree Kennett, Tristan Weddle, Peyton Jones, Bella Lowery, Ellie Kate Weddle, Madalynn Jones, Zoie Lowery, Sophie Noe, Willow Weddle, Sawyer Barnard, Remi Jones, and great, great grandbabies, Avett Froy and Journey Brown. She is also Aunt Mary to a number of beloved nieces, nephews, and their families.

Mary’s daughters ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pulaski County Alzheimer's Center, whose program, clients, and staff Mary dearly loved. Donations can be made online at www.pcalzcenter.com or Pulaski County Alzheimer's Center, P.O. Box
393, Somerset, KY 42502. Donations will also be accepted at the service.
