Mary Lynne Latham, age 70, of Bronston, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home on June 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on March 13, 1956, in Somerset, Kentucky, Mary Lynne was the daughter of the late Ralph Henry Latham Sr. and Mary Sue Latham. She was a member of West Bronston Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, James Richard "Rick" Latham, Wilma Cathi Latham, Martha Sue (Martin) Kute, Carrie Amanda Latham, and John Mark Latham; her sister-in-law, Gerry Latham; and her nephews, Paul Ray Bryant and Jason Troy Latham.
She is survived by her brothers, Ralph Latham Jr., Philip Andrew Latham, and Charles Arnold Latham; her special friend, Ashley Mitchell; her nephews, Erik (Megan) Cinnamon and Zachary Latham; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who loved her dearly.
Mary Lynne was an entrepreneur with a passion for people. Throughout her life, she owned and operated several businesses, including Cafe Max, The Blue Moon Cafe, a shoe store, and an ice cream shop. She also spent many years working in retail and served as a basketball and volleyball referee Family was at the center of her life.
She was the "mama hen" of the family, always looking after her siblings, nieces, nephews, and anyone else who needed a little extra love, encouragement, or advice. She loved fiercely and gave generously of herself. Mary Lynne had a style all her own. She loved music, especially jazz and R&B, and was known to break into song at any moment.
She enjoyed art, cooking, reading, traveling, attending concerts, and was a gifted athlete. She loved a good conversation, a good laugh, and spending time with the people she cared about. Most people knew they were likely to be greeted with a warm "darling" when they saw her.
She had an unforgettable laugh, a colorful personality, and a sense of humor that wasn't always understood by everyone-but those who knew her best found her absolutely hilarious. She was also wonderfully stubborn, a trait that remained with her until the very end and kept her family and healthcare workers on their toes.
She loved her beloved Volvo, treasured time spent with family and friends, and never lost the independent spirit that defined her life. To her nephew Zachary, she was simply "E," a nickname that reflected the special bond they shared.
Whether she was sharing a story, singing along to a favorite song, calling someone "darling," or saying "far out," Mary Lynne had a way of making an impression on people. Her family will miss her laughter, her strength, her love, and the countless memories she leaves behind. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the many years, stories, and moments we shared with her.
There will never be another Mary Lynne.
