Melodie Godby

Melodie Rose Prather Godby, age 69, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, devoted friend and Epistle of Christ, of Somerset, Kentucky was taken home by angels to be with the Lord on May 17th, 2025 to her eternal home in Heaven.

She was born to William "Bill" Arthur and Margaret Rose Jackson Prather on January 21, 1956 and she wanted her life to reflect servitude to the Lord and her family. She was a Christian lady who was solid in her faith in Jesus Christ.

She was united in marriage to Mr. David Howard Godby at Sardis Methodist Church on April 6, 1975, he survives. Other survivors include her son, Christopher Lee Godby and his wife Jamie Wesley Godby; three grandchildren, Chandler, Boone and Hadlee Godby; three brothers, William "Burr" Prather and his wife Barbara, Jeff Prather and his wife Kim and John Prather and his wife Claudette; her brother-in-law, Mac Godby and his wife Jan; her five nephews, Mackey Godby, Andrew Godby, Jackson Prather, Alec Godby, Ben Godby and many special friends and family members.

She was preceded in death by one son, William David Godby; her parents, William Arthur and Margaret Rose Jackson Prather; and her Mother and father-in-law, Howard Leon and Clell Dean Prewitt Godby and her nephew Joshua Howard Godby.

The Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the first responders especially the Mt. Victory Fire Department for all of the help and effort that has put forth in our community to aide those affected by this disaster.

The family requests that all expressions of sympathy be shown in love offerings given to the Mt. Victory Fire Department, 14955 KY- 192, Somerset, KY, 42501.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at the Science Hill Nazarene Church 600 Stanford St. Science Hill, KY 42553 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a celebration of life to follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor David Godby officiating.  

She will be laid to rest in Prather Cemetery in Towering Hills, Nancy, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be, Chandler Godby, Boone Godby, Jackson Prather, Jerrod Childers, Aiden Wesley, Trey Price, Drew Polston, Colton Fraley, Carson Fraley, Camdon Fraley, honorary pallbearers will be, Sonny Long, Edwin Sellers, Parker Sellers, William "Bill" Turpen, Ryan Childers, John VanHook, Jay Flynn, Brian Whitaker, Jimmy Dan Carroll, Brandon Allen, Stacy Barr, Kyle Shadoan, Josh Bentley, Matthew Gates and Jerry Childers.
