Melvyn L. Stringer

June 25, 1940 — January 20, 2021

Melvyn Lyle Stringer, 80 of Somerset, departed this life on Wednesday January 20, 2021 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Melvyn was born in Somerset, KY on June 25, 1940, to the late Roscoe T. and Mae Frisbee Stringer. Melvyn married Mae Cundiff on October 10, 1961. He retired from First & Farmers National Bank after 35 years of service. He enjoyed working on his farm raising cattle and horses. He loved to train, work, show and trail ride his horses and mules. His favorite mule was KoJack which won several ribbons in the show ring. He began to fix his own horse tack and over a couple of years his hobby grew into a full-time business known as MSM Saddle & Tack that he owned and operated for 12 years. Melvyn actively served the Lord through West Somerset Baptist Church as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He is survived by his wife, Mae; their sons Patrick Bryon (and Andrea) Stringer, of Somerset and Kelley Joe (and Story) Stringer, of Somerset; two brothers David (and Brenda) Stringer, of Eubank, Robert (and Marlene) Stringer of Mt. Washington; two sisters, Mary Whittenberg and Anna Raye (and Arthur Jay) McLin, both of Somerset; two grandchildren, Whitley Stringer of Fayetteville, NC and Jake Stringer of Somerset. Preceding Melvyn in death are his parents; his brothers, Roscoe Eugene (and Lucile), Arthur Lee (and Patsy); and his sisters, Shirley Rogers (and Bert) and Nina Nicholas (and Dempsey) and one brother-in law Bethel Whittenberg. In lieu of flowers the family requests: (1) Gideon Bibles (2) West Somerset Baptist Church Cemetery Fund (3) West Somerset Baptist Church Missions Fund. Honorary Pallbearers: Arthur Jay McLin and David Stringer. A private funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Pulaski Funeral Home.
