Mike Simpson

August 20, 1952 — April 5, 2022

Mike Simpson, son of the late Richard and Janie Capps Simpson, was born in Somerset, KY on Wednesday, August 20, 1952 and he departed this life at his residence on Tuesday, April 5th, 2022 having attained the age of 69 years. He was united in marriage to Tammie Taylor Simpson. She survives.

Other survivors include: a sister, Carolyn Simpson Sutherlin married to Robert Calvin Sutherlin. Six Nieces, Lisa Sutherlin Jackson, Kimberly Garrison Sutherlin, Heather Brooke Merritt, Monica Paigee Simpson, Sarah Taylor Silverman. Four Nephews, Robert Grant Sutherlin, Richard Todd Simpson, Wendell Scott Simpson, Nathaniel Ray Taylor, and Dustin Silverman. Four Great Nieces, Victoria Brooke Sutherlin and Amelia Jane Sutherlin, Clara Grace Taylor and Harley Silverman. Three Great Nephews, Will Merritt, Joey Merritt, Ethan Ray Taylor, Henry James Taylor and Levi Silverman and Tyler Silverman as well as one God Son; Mackey Melvin Godby.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Ronald Simpson and Robert Hugh Simpson, Sister in law, Luanne Simpson. Great niece, Laura Lane Silverman.

Mike's accomplishments in life were many, he attended Somerset Community College where he earned his associates degree in business as well as attending the University of Kentucky, The American Institute of Banking as well as the Kentucky School of Banking. He was also a graduate of the school of Banking of The University of Wisconsin at Madison. Mike was Executive Vice President and Chief Executive officer, Secretary and Director of Cumberland Security bank for 45 years. He was a strong leader in the community and served on the board of Directors for the Bankers of Kentucky, The Bluegrass Bankers of Kentucky and was the director of the Advisory Board of Directors of Bankers Service Corporation. Mike was a University of Kentucky Henry Sites Barker Fellow, past president of The Blakely Family YMCA, past director of Rural Community College Initiative, Somerset Community College and The Somerset- Pulaski County Development Foundation. He also held the honor of being president of the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce. He served the citizens of Pulaski County through his work as director of The United Way of South Central Kentucky, The Board of Trustees of Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Board, The Lake Cumberland Foundation, The Lake Cumberland Home Health Agency, The Lake Cumberland Performing Arts, The Pulaski County Literacy Council and as a past president of The Pulaski County Library Board and Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

He enjoyed collecting antiques, design projects, music, architecture and history. Finance was a big part of Mike’s life along with community involvement. He enjoyed being involved with St Patrick Episcopal Church. He loved and always supported his family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9th, 2022 at the St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church with Mother Chris Brannock officiating. Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery.

The family of Mr. Mike Simpson will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9th, 2022.
