Norma Jo Clue

May 2, 1925 — November 4, 2021

Norma "Jo" Clotfelter Clue, age 96, of Somerset, KY, passed peacefully at home on November 4, 2021. The family takes comfort in knowing she and her husband of 67 years, Major LaVern "Lee" Ira Clue, had a joyful reunion in heaven.

Jo was born on May 2, 1925 in Harlan, KY, to the late Homer B. and Ida Elizabeth (Winchester) Clotfelter.  She had two siblings who preceded her in passing, Dick and Jack Clotfelter.  It would be impossible to sum up her adventurous 96 years in just a few short sentences, but let us try to paint you a picture. She graduated from Radford University with a degree in nursing and then had a grandson graduate from that same university 60+ years later. She loved to tell of how she and Lee were married at the Little Brown Church in the Vale and would always include the tidbit that Ronald & Nancy Reagan tied the knot there, as well. Lee's career in the U.S. Air Force led the family to two stations in Germany, post-WWII during the Reconstruction Period, a station in California in-between, and a final post at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Kettering, OH. As Lee neared retirement, Jo's career as a nationally-recognized interior decorator began. She started Cottage Interiors in Kettering, but it flourished once she, Lee, and Bobby settled in Nancy, KY, on Lake Cumberland. Her eye for antiques and her talents in decoration led her to become a leader in her field at a time that women business owners were few and far between.  She had clients across several states and was featured in Architectural Digest on multiple occasions. Jo loved to celebrate every holiday, but especially enjoyed decorating for Christmas, selecting the exact perfect gift for someone, and then carefully wrapping the most beautiful packages.  She was a talented pianist, a very good cook, and adored her dogs and her grandchildren.  Those who had the pleasure of knowing Jo will remember her as soft and funny and gracious, but also stubborn and tenacious and just-- quite simply, she was a force.

Jo will be lovingly remembered by her three children: daughter Tona Clue of Somerset, KY, and sons James (and Karen) Clue of Salem, VA, and Bobby (and Andrea) Clue of Somerset, KY. Jo was also the proud grandmother of five grandchildren: Jennifer (and Dr. Allison) Schafer of West Hartford, CT; Joshua (and Janet) Clue of Roanoke, VA; Jacob (and Cassie) Clue of Rutherfordton, NC; and Chelsea and Shelby Jo Clue of Somerset, KY; along with seven great-grandchildren: Sophia and Annabelle Clue; Jameson, Raelynn, and Finnley Clue; and Jack and soon-to-arrive Ellington Jane Schafer. Jo was a dear friend to many who became family to her: sisters-in-law Rosie Clue and Patty Clotfelter; Rosemary & Rodney Parsons; Shirley & the late Jim Kilgore; Jane, Troy, and Chloe Herman; and, of course, Jennie Stanley, Mary Ann Johnson, Loretta Sharp and Ken Drumm.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Pulaski Funeral Home.

Her funeral service and burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, KY, with Bro. David Green officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, who so compassionately cared for Jo in her final weeks.
