Somerset, Kentucky
Pat A. Henderson, age 90, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025. Born on February 6, 1935, in Anderson, South Carolina, Pat brought warmth, creativity, and quiet strength to all who had the joy of knowing her.
She attended St. Hannah's Girls High School, a Catholic school in South Carolina, where she built lifelong friendships and began nurturing her love of the arts.
Pat went on to pursue a career in healthcare, working as a dedicated X-ray technician in hospitals and doctors' offices across several states. Known for her professionalism and compassion, she cared deeply for her patients and left a lasting impact on those she served.
She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Vertrees Henderson, with whom she shared many cherished years. Their bond was one of deep devotion and enduring love.
A lifelong lover of crafts, Pat found beauty in the details - whether with a paintbrush, a sewing needle, or a pair of knitting needles in hand. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, and many other crafts. Her creativity was more than a pastime; it was how she connected with the world and expressed her deep appreciation for life's quiet moments. Family and friends often received the gift of something lovingly made by her hands - a lasting reminder of her generous spirit.
Pat was also deeply committed to helping others. She volunteered with many programs supporting children with autism, including the ARC of Somerset, dedicating her time and compassion to making a difference in their lives.
In recognition of her exceptional service and dedication, Pat was honored with the title of Kentucky Colonel, the highest civilian honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky. This distinction celebrated her significant contributions to the Commonwealth and her unwavering commitment to her community.
She also enjoyed the fun and fellowship of bowling and bingo, and one of her and her daughter Jane's favorite places to eat together was Frisch's Big Boy, where they shared many meals and memories.
Pat is survived by her son, David Henderson, and his wife, Tamatha Jassman-Henderson; her daughter, Jane M. Henderson; her granddaughter, Raegan M. Walkuski; and her siblings, Linda Prather, John Fant, and Tony Fant. She will be remembered not only as a devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and sister, but as a source of steady encouragement, kindness, and unconditional love.
In her own words: "I like people. Love my son and daughter very much. I have one grandchild. I do not hold anger. I believe in God. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
