Listen to Obituary

Raymond "Ray" Loyd Wright was born August 20, 1932 in Devol, OK to Floyd and Vie Anna Wright. Raymond was the 6th child out of 7 children. The hard working, farming family migrated to California in 1941. It was on that trip that Raymond saw a lightbulb for the first time. His older brother, J.W., convinced him he had to blow out the light. Raymond tried with all of his might, but just couldn't blow it out.

Raymond passed away peacefully, August 2, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and his daughter Karen"Raylene" Wright.

He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Janie Gumm Wright, sister Donna Scott, sons Steven Darrell Wright, Brian Cabbott Wright (Dawn), daughter Brenda "Monet" Davis (Stephen), special "adopted son" James West (Becky Perkins), 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a host of other family members and his best Cheeto-loving pup, Jax.

Ray joined the Army when he was 17 years old. He proudly served our country fighting in the Korean War as a Forward Observer with the 61st Field Artillery Battalion. After being honorably discharged, he met and married his first wife, Doris. They had 4 Children together, Raylene, Steven, Brian and Monet.

Ray owned a very successful insulation company, Wright Insulation, in Bakersfield, CA. He also owned Ray's Satellite, after moving to Kentucky in the 1990s.

Ray loved to build and engineer anything and everything. He was quite innovative. He never met a stranger and he always had a story to tell. "True story, word for word". And he was always quick with a joke, appropriate or not.

Early in his working career, Ray worked as an airplane mechanic with Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. It was here that he developed his passion for airplanes and flying. He earned his Private Pilot's License and owned several aircraft over the years. He was an amazing pilot who loved to travel, especially when he flew family and friends to fishing trips in Mexico.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses on the ICU floor of Lake Cumberland Hospital. And the sweet, caring nurses at Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
