Robert Bates

August 15, 1920 — March 29, 2019

Mr. Robert Bates, son of the late William and Olga Placke Bates, was born in the Grundy Community of Pulaski County on August 15, 1920 and he departed this life on in Somerset on March 29th, 2019 having attained the age of 98 years.

He was united in marriage for 67 years to the love of his life; Ina D. Goodin Bates, she preceded him in death.

He is survived by; four sons; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and six brothers and sisters.

Other than his parents and his wife, Mr. Bates was also preceded in death by; one grandchild, and seven brothers and sisters.

He was a member of the Buena Vista Baptist Church, he was an avid outdoors-man, and loved hunting and fishing. He worked as the chief mechanic for the Pulaski County Board of Education School Bus Garage. He was a World War II Army Veteran and he retired from the Kentucky National Guard after 32 years of service.

Robert was a kind person who will be deeply missed by all who knew him and he leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

A funeral service for Mr. Robert Bates will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Bates officiating.

Burial will follow in the Rock Lick Cemetery with Military honors conducted by the American Legion Post # 38.

In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Rock Lick Church Cemetery Fund. 

The family of Mr. Robert Bates will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2019 until time for service.
