Rondol D. Neikirk, of Somerset, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 30, 2025, having reached the age of 88 years. He was surrounded by family & passed peacefully in his apartment at The Neighborhood, Somerset, Ky. His legacy includes membership at Pleasant Hill Baptist church and praying for his family to join him in Heaven one day.
Ron was born in Somerset on August 6, 1936, to Durward O. and Coloda Ellen Cooper Neikirk. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Joyce Haggard Neikirk, whom he married on February 6, 1958; three brothers, Durward O. Neikirk, Jr., Harold Bertram "Bill"Neikirk, and Dewayne Paul Neikirk; a granddaughter, Ashley Jordan Brooks, who died in infancy; two beloved paternal aunts Paula "Bessie" Holder and Elizabeth Brigance, and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Surviving him are his two daughters, Rhonda (Tracy) Spears and Jill (David) Boatman, both of Somerset, KY, and his son Chris (Dolli) Neikirk, of New Albany, Indiana. Also, surviving him are his grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, Scott (Megan), and Emily Spears, Matthew, Natalie and Kasey Boatman (Dane Stuart), Heather (Tyler) Laymon, Alex (Adam) Grabert, Berkeley (Andrew) Bittner, Briley Neikirk, Amanda (Tyler) Hart, and Chandler Kight (Skyler Robbins). His surviving great-grandchildren are Jolene, Grayson, Nolan and Harper Spears, Isla Hart, Scarlett Robbins, Abel Grabert, Zane and Melia Campbell, and Baby Emory Bittner, due in August (close to his birthday). He is survived by one sister-in-law, Sue Neikirk, numerous nieces and nephews, his extended family at the Neighborhood, and his church family at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Ron attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church his entire life, where he was a faithful member and prayer warrior, served as a Sunday School teacher, moderator, and on several committees. He loved his church and church family dearly and attended as long as his health allowed. He was a former employee of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. , a veteran of the US Air Force, a member of the I.O.O.F. , where he served one term as the Grand Master of KY, and made his home at The Neighborhood Assisted Living Facility since March 2018.
His family would like to sincerely thank our friends and family for their prayers during his last days; the staff, led by Sharon Reynolds, at the Neighborhood; the nurses on ICU and Dr. Brad Qashou at Lake Cumberland Hospital; the staff at Hospice of Lake Cumberland; and Pastor Todd and Bro. Danny at PHBC, for their devotion, kindness, and loving care during this time. We would also like to thank Dr. Patrick Jenkins, Dr. Mandissa Alicia Sealy, and Lifeline Home Health for taking care of our father.
Funeral services are scheduled on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service with Bro. Danny Rowland and Pastor Todd Young officiating.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Neikirk, Calvin Roberts, Tyler Spears, Kyle Spears, Scott Spears, and Matthew Boatman. Honorary Pallbearers are Eddie Edwards, Charles Hall, Jim Hines, Jerry Maybrier, and Jerry Wesley.
Pulaski Funeral Home is entrusted with the body of Rondol D. Neikirk. His final resting place will be in the mausoleum at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions can be made to Gideons International or Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
