Ruth Zelma Schrader Row

December 13, 1920 — December 20, 2017

Ruth Zelma Schrader Row, a long-time resident of The Neighborhood of Somerset, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Thursday morning, December 21, 2017, at the age of 97. Ruth was born December 13, 1920 in Olivet, Kansas, the 4th of 5 daughters born to the late Charles and Mena Schrader.

Ruth attended Emporia State Teachers College and taught elementary students at various schools in Osage County, Kansas before voluntarily joining the war effort as a clerical worker at a Boeing Aircraft plant in Wichita, Kansas. From Wichita, Ruth relocated to California to continue her military support as a records clerk at a naval base in San Francisco.

After the war, Ruth moved to Florida, where she met and later married William J. (Bill) Row, who predeceased her in June of 2007. Bill was a career employee in the accounting division of Standard Oil (now Chevron).  Bill and Ruth subsequently made their home in Louisville, KY until his retirement from Standard Oil. They then moved to Pulaski County, Kentucky to enjoy the lake.

Bill and Ruth loved being near the lake and built a home in the Omega Park area on Lake Cumberland. They were part of the founding effort for the Cumberland Church of Christ in Somerset, KY., where they both served faithfully for many years.

Ruth loved to entertain, loved to cook, and she was an excellent seamstress.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Mena Schrader, her husband, William J. (Bill) Row, and her older sisters, Pauline Supple (97), Louise Miller (95), and Lucille Ward (96). She is survived by her younger sister, Lois McLain (95) of Macon, GA, who supplied the details included in this obituary. Ruth also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and “family” from her church.

A graveside service will be held at Lakeside Memorial Garden in Somerset, Kentucky on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 11:00 am EST, with Darrell Wallace and Don Moss presiding.

Expressions of sympathy may be made via gifts to the Cumberland Church of Christ youth program, 154 Turner St, Somerset, KY 42503. Bill and Ruth were ardent supporters of the youth throughout their lives and would have been honored to have you participate in that effort.

Pulaski Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
