Listen to Obituary

Ryan Scott Powers, 53, born August 23, 1973, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, peacefully slipped from this world into his eternal home on Monday, October 12, 2026, surrounded by family. He lived a life defined by quiet devotion to the people he loved.

Ryan and his beloved wife, Heidi, celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on April 17, 2026, doing what they loved most-immersing themselves in the magic of Disney aboard a cruise with close friends.

In the fall of 1995, Ryan met Heidi at a gathering at her house. After talking with her for hours, he knew she was the one. Not knowing quite how to woo a woman, he called her the next day, claiming to have left his keys at her house so he could see her again. Clearly, she fell for the ruse, and it wasn't until after they were married that he admitted to the scheme.

They married just six months later, on April 17, 1996, and spent 30 years together, convincing friends and family that the hasty decision was the best contract either had ever entered into. While no marriage is free from bumps and the occasional head-on collision, they made a commitment to never go to bed angry, to sprinkle "I'm sorry" more generously than salt on a fresh tomato, to forgive as God forgives us, and to love each other as God loves us-patiently, with kindness, keeping no record of wrongs, never failing, always hoping, trusting, and persevering.

Ryan and Heidi were blessed with two sons, Tucker and Will. Ryan devoted his life to his sons and to being the best father each of them needed. He loved spending one-on-one time with each of the boys and finding ways to express his love-by showing up, checking in, sending long texts (if you have ever been the recipient of one of Ryan's texts, you understand), giving thoughtful gifts, sharing downloads of songs he loved, and listening to the music with them.

Tucker and Will were his greatest joy, and he was infinitely proud of the men they had become. He was also thrilled that they inherited his love of and skill for cooking, as that gene was apparently missing from their mother.

A fastidious tinkerer who loved working with his hands, Ryan had a natural talent for repairing, building, and rebuilding. He loved nothing more than spending a Saturday in his shed working on his Ducati, with friends stopping by to sit and talk or hold a wrench.

He was proud of his work as the plant manager of the Pittman Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant for the City of Somerset, and he loved and supported his coworkers like family.

Ryan was a passionate advocate for men's mental health and for removing the stigma associated with men seeking treatment. He strongly encouraged those he loved to seek counseling when needed. He found peace and solace in the outdoors, riding his Ducati, and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends.

His passing will be felt by the many who loved him, and that is perhaps the greatest legacy any of us can hope to leave-that our passing is noted and that others may be changed for the better by having known us.

Ryan left us far too soon, but he would want his life to be celebrated. He would want us to never stop working on ourselves and to never allow our past or our mistakes to define us. God can redeem us and remove our transgressions as far as the east is from the west.

Ryan is survived by his beloved wife, Heidi Schultz Powers; his sons, Tucker Powers of Denver, Colorado, and Will Powers of Cincinnati, Ohio; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. Fred and Connie Schultz; his mother-in-law, Sherry Schultz; his sister and brother-in-law, Theresa (Tracy) and Stuart McIntosh; his brother and sister-in-law, Andrew Schultz and Robin Henderson; and his nieces and nephews, Alix McIntosh and her husband, Arun Vignesh; Chloe McIntosh and her husband, Nick Bolchoz, to whom Ryan will always be known as "Ryan King"; Hannah Schultz and her husband, Ryan Williamson; Alice Schultz; Madelynn Henderson; Isabelle Henderson; and Colin Henderson. He is also survived by his great-niece, Flora Schultz Williamson.
