Vera Lee Dykes Gastineau, age 86, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away on March 5, 2026. She was born on September 6, 1939, to the late Alton and Edna (Gragg) Dykes.
Vera was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend to many. She was known for her caring heart and the joy she found in spending time with her family and friends. She loved her family, her church, and the many children she babysat throughout the years. Vera enjoyed taking the children she took care of to the public library and local parks, mowing her yard, and spending time with her loved ones.
She was a faithful member of Clay Hill Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky, where her faith and love for her church family were an important part of her life.
Vera is survived by her three children: Jennifer Macip (Charles) of Scott, Louisiana; Vickie Clark (Allen) of Science Hill, Kentucky; and James E. Gastineau II (Tonya) of Somerset, Kentucky. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jacob Clark (Makayla), Taylor Macip, Connor Macip, James M. Gastineau, and Danielle Hibbard (Greg). She leaves behind one great-grandchild, Oliver Hibbard.
She is also survived by four sisters-in-law: Dene Jones, Lynn Gastineau, Kathy Vaughn, and Judy Gastineau; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Cowan; and a host of other family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Vera was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, James "Ed" Gastineau; her brothers-in-law, Andrew "Bud" Gastineau, Jerry Gastineau, Clarence Mink; and her sisters-in-law, Janice Mink, Janie Cowan, and Nancy Pevley; and a daughter in infancy, Rachel Gastineau.
Vera will be remembered for her loving spirit, her devotion to her family, and the kindness she showed to everyone she met. She loved professing her love and witnessing for Jesus. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Friday, March 13, 2026, at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Lockard officiating. Burial will follow in Clay Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11 AM Friday, March 13, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to: The Gideons International Bible Plan, Hospice of Lake Cumberland, or the Clay Hill Baptist Church Missionary Plan.
